Stair Chair Lifts: Guide to Stair MeasurementsIn today’s manufactured lifting machine products, self-installation can be possible. Stair chair lift manufacturers have introduced a user-friendly stair lift units, which can be installed all by your self easily and without hassle. They are cheaper in cost and don’t require a complex process of installation. All you’ll need is a clean sheet of paper and a good quality tape measure. The whole installation process can be completed in just few minutes. All measurements should be recorded in inches. Before measuring your own staircase, take a general overview of the stairs. Check the layout and its configuration. Is it straight or it has curves, bends and middle landings? Write information of the stairs for documentation. This is very important, as you will base here the stair chair lift product model and type of the lift unit you’ll purchase. Decide which side of the stair you prefer to install the stairway chair lift. Apparently, you can install the stair lift product on either side of your stairs, but for convenient purposes it is important that you choose exactly the side of the stairs that you’re going to fit the stair lift. Typically stair chair lifts are fitted in the treads of the staircase and not in the walls that’s why there’s no need for you to worry of digging holes in your wall. The following are the important steps of measuring your staircase. Note: Make sure that when you are measuring, the tape measure is not sagging or bending. You can pin or stick an adhesive tape to each end of the tape measure to prevent it from drooping (for longer measurements). 1. The overall length of the stair – this is measured from the top edge of the stair to the bottom landing of the staircase. This is preferably the most important measurement of all, as the length of the rail will be based here. 2. Top edge to bottom edge of the stairs – this is measured from the top edge of stair treads down to the bottom stair edge. 3. The width of the stair treads – next is the measurement of the width of the staircase. This one is also important as the size of the stair chair lift product depends here. For instance, a standing or perch stair lifts can be installed in narrower staircases. 4. The measurement of the stair tread and the height – measure the stair tread of the stair. Measuring the front edge of the stair tread until it reaches the back does this. The rise or height of a stair is measured from the front edge downwards. Better count the stair risers of your stair. 5. Top and Bottom Obstruction Distance – whenever there’s a doorframe or wall near the top and the bottom landing of your staircase, it is better to measure the distance of it from the stair. Top – measure the distance of the wall to the edge of the first stair tread. Bottom – get the measurement of the distance of the wall until it reaches the bottom of the stair. This measurement will ensure a clear top and bottom landing of your stair chair lift. 6. The diagonal measurement of a step – measure the tip edge of a step down to the tip edge of the next. It is very important that all your measurements are accurate. After all the measurements have been done, contact your selected reputable stair chair lift manufacturer and take note of them the list of your measurement for them to assist you on what stair chair lift product and model should you purchase.
